Apple Accuses Former Engineer of Exploiting Vulnerabilities to Download Confidential Files, OpenAI Releases Chat Logs in Rebuttal

Apple has accused former engineer Chang Liu of exploiting system vulnerabilities to access the internal cloud storage and download dozens of confidential files to assist OpenAI in developing hardware after his departure. OpenAI has released chat logs claiming that Apple concealed certain facts. The logs indicate that after Liu's departure, Apple colleagues continued to operate the work devices he left behind, transferring Apple files and actively inquiring about file locations and project details, suggesting that although he had left, it was most appropriate to ask him. OpenAI countered that Liu's access to Apple materials after his departure was partly at the request of Apple colleagues. Apple had not completely severed Liu's personal iCloud from work files, leading to confusion during the handover process. Nevertheless, these chat logs have not overturned the lawsuit. Apple has also accused Liu of exploiting authentication vulnerabilities to download files and has accused hardware lead Tang Tan of soliciting vendor and product information. OpenAI primarily rebutted some of Liu's accusations.
