Bank of Russia Launches Digital Ruble on September 1, Strategy Buys Bitcoin for $370 Million
The Bank of Russia has announced the launch of the digital ruble starting September 1, with major banks and retail companies set to open their infrastructure for the new form of national currency. Strategy purchased Bitcoin for $370 million at a price exceeding $80,000 per coin, amid rising exchange rates. Cryptocurrency projects bought back their own tokens for $640 million in 2026, coinciding with the price increase of certain crypto assets, but experts are skeptical about the effectiveness of this strategy. Analysts predict changes in the Russian cryptocurrency market following the implementation of new regulations. Polymarket was valued at $21 billion after investments from Trump’s son, who will increase his investment in the platform to $500 million. Over the summer, there were 13 physical attacks on cryptocurrency owners, most of which occurred in France. Tether was sued for freezing USDT at the request of the U.S. for $42 million. In Thailand, crypto services are required to verify the owners of any wallets. Analysts note that a Bart Simpson pattern has emerged on the Bitcoin chart, which could lead to a price drop to $58,000. Polymarket traders assess the likelihood of a Kanye West concert in Russia, although organizers claim the show is not canceled. Bitcoin has reached a four-month high, with prices rising by 5% in a day. Sberbank has called for action against gray crypto exchanges, pointing to their role in the withdrawal of stolen funds.
