Besant Urges Immediate Vote on CLARITY Act
Scott Besant, the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury, criticized the Democratic Party for delaying the vote on the CLARITY Act, claiming it is for political reasons. He argued that if the bill fails, the U.S. could lose its leadership in the global digital asset industry. On the 30th, Secretary Besant stated that the CLARITY Act has completed the voting preparations after a year of bipartisan negotiations and reviews by the Senate Banking and Agriculture Committees. He explained that thousands of hours of bipartisan negotiations have taken place since the House passed the bill, and that Senate Republicans have also prepared a bill that is ready for a vote in the full chamber. He criticized the Democrats for prioritizing political interests over the competitiveness of the digital asset industry, adding that Parts 2 and 3 of the bill strengthen regulations on digital asset intermediaries. Secretary Besant refuted the Democrats' claim that the CLARITY Act is inadequate for consumer protection and combating illegal finance, stating that this is not true. He mentioned that Senate Minority Leader John Thune will soon push for a vote, and that it will be a test of whether the Democrats choose to support U.S. leadership in the digital asset industry.
