BREAKING: Settlement Agreement Released in Ripple-SEC Case – SEC Issues Official Statement According to the latest development, the SEC has published the official document regarding the settlement it reached with Ripple on its website. Here are the details. The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) announced on May 8, 2025, that a settlement agreement has been reached in the litigation involving Ripple Labs Inc., CEO Bradley Garlinghouse, and co-founder Christian Larsen. The agreement signed between the parties and the SEC establishes a framework for resolving the lawsuit filed in December 2020. According to the agreement, the SEC and Ripple will jointly file a motion with the court to lift the injunction imposed on Ripple under the final judgment dated August 7, 2024, and to redistribute the money in the account where Ripple holds the $125 million penalty fee. According to this redistribution, only $50 million will be paid to the SEC, while the remaining amount will be returned to Ripple. If the court so decides, the parties will seek a limited remand in the appeals process to send the case back to the district court, after which both the SEC and Ripple will drop their appeals, which are currently pending with the Second Circuit Court of Appeals. The SEC said the settlement did not include an assessment of the merits of the lawsuit’s claims and was taken solely to support efforts to update and restructure its regulatory approach to the cryptocurrency market. It also noted that this decision would not set a precedent for other similar cases. *This is not investment advice.
