Hayes Announces Testnet Schedule for October 2026
Arthur Hayes, co-founder of BitMEX, has announced the testnet schedule for the Flop Network, set for late October 2026. The FLOP token has not yet been issued. Hayes explained that a currency close to actual computational units is necessary for the computational resources and memory storage required by AI agents. The Flop Network is designed to reward miners who handle AI inference tasks with FLOP tokens. Hayes stated that approximately 20% of the total supply will be airdropped to testnet participants. However, this is only part of the overall token structure and has not been confirmed in official documents. The testnet is expected to operate for about 90 days, and if there are no issues, the mainnet is planned to launch in the first quarter of 2027. The Flop Network is structured with a narrower purpose than general-purpose smart contract chains, envisioning a payment layer where AI agents can directly purchase the computations they need. The project is currently in its early stages, with no whitepaper or technical documents released yet. The official token has not been issued, and fake tokens have emerged in the market. There are simultaneous expectations and caution in the market. The confirmed schedule currently includes the testnet in late October 2026 and the mainnet target in the first quarter of 2027.
