Luis Caputo Meets with Scott Bessent at the G20
Economy Minister Luis Caputo will meet with U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent during the G20 finance ministers' summit. The meeting will focus on the economic and political relationship between both governments and will analyze the international scenario. The meeting will take place at Bessent's offices in The Omni Grove Park Inn hotel, with the presence of José Luis Daza, Santiago Bausili, and Vladimir Werning. This meeting comes at a time of strong alignment between the administrations of Javier Milei and Donald Trump. Bessent has been a key interlocutor for Argentina and has supported Milei's economic program and negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The bilateral meeting will allow for a review of the state of the relationship and discussion of the next steps in U.S. economic policy in a context marked by the crisis in the Middle East and its effects on markets, energy, and inflation. Additionally, the midterm elections in November could influence the balance of power in Washington. At the G20, Caputo defended the government's economic program, emphasizing the importance of private investment and less state intervention for economic growth. IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva supported Argentina's direction, highlighting the country's economic recovery. After the meeting with Bessent, Caputo will return to Buenos Aires.
