Monad Proposes New Transaction Ordering Mechanism to Directly Express Ordering Preferences

By: rootdata|2026/07/20 15:23:49

Monad's development team, Category Labs, has proposed a protocol-level transaction ordering rule called "unanimity override." This mechanism allows applications to directly express transaction ordering preferences on a shared chain without the need to establish independent application chains or Rollups, thus resolving the conflict between ordering control and composability. When all applications with a common interest in a pair of transactions reach a consensus on the order, the protocol will respect that consensus; any parts that cannot reach a consensus will be supplemented by priority fee ordering. This mechanism can still protect the ordering security of transactions interacting with a single application and "protected transactions" that cannot be constructed by attackers, even when facing strong adversaries that can control default block ordering, deploy malicious applications, and inject arbitrary transactions. Category Labs states that this mechanism can be applied in scenarios such as PropAMM, on-chain order books, and on-chain auctions, extending Rollup-level ordering guarantees to the main chain without the need for cross-chain solutions.
