Poland Launches 'Economy 2.0', GDP Exceeds $1 Trillion

By: delo.ua|2026/08/21 07:30:01

Poland is changing its economic development model by moving away from cheap assembly labor and focusing on high technologies such as artificial intelligence and electric vehicle production. Following the surpassing of a gross domestic product of $1 trillion and an invitation to the G20 summit, Prime Minister Donald Tusk's government is emphasizing new investment projects. Canadian company Lumina Metals Corp. plans to invest $6.4 billion in the construction of a mining complex in Nowa Sól, which will symbolize the new strategy. The scale of the copper and silver deposit is the largest in Europe in the last 70 years, providing resources for AI data centers and electric vehicle production. Mining is scheduled to begin in 2035, with licensing taking about five years. The investment will account for about 30% of the GDP of the Lubusz Voivodeship, creating 6,000 jobs at the site and up to 40,000 in related sectors. Despite the cancellation of Intel's $4.6 billion semiconductor plant project, Poland is attracting other major players, such as Foxconn, which plans an electric vehicle plant in Jaworzno, and a Taiwanese tech park worth up to $20 billion. Poland's Finance Minister Andrzej Domański highlighted the importance of investment quality and technology transfer.
