SUI Co-founder Pushes for Mass Production of Quantum-Resistant Wallet Cards Under $10
The co-founder of SUI is pushing for the mass production of quantum-resistant hardware wallet cards priced under $10 each. The goal for processing quantum-resistant signatures based on Near Field Communication (NFC) is set at 1 to 2 seconds. Kostas Chalkias, co-founder and chief cryptographer of Mysten Labs, is developing a quantum-resistant two-factor authentication card for SUI users. Chalkias has been preparing to mass-produce wallets by renting a dedicated factory in an unofficial location since last year. Two-factor authentication is a security method that requires an additional authentication factor beyond a password for major actions such as logging in or withdrawing funds. This card is designed to incorporate a cryptographic system that can withstand quantum computer attacks into a separate hardware authentication device. By using NFC, the authentication process can be conducted by bringing the card close to a supporting device. Recently, Chalkias mentioned the Coldcard hardware wallet incident, assuring his users that such an event would not occur for them. The Coldcard incident was caused by vulnerabilities in the key generation process, resulting in losses of approximately $130 million. Chalkias's card development aligns with plans to introduce two types of quantum-resistant signature systems for SUI, and the SUI Foundation plans to implement quantum-safe vaults on the mainnet by 2026.
