Sweden Allocates 270 Million Krona to Aid Ukraine
The Swedish government has allocated 270 million Swedish kronor (approximately 27.4 million dollars) to support Ukraine through multilateral funds and initiatives. The Swedish Armed Forces have been tasked with distributing these funds, with a primary focus on air defense. This includes an additional contribution of 14 million dollars to the PURL initiative, administered by NATO, which provides defense supplies to Ukraine. Swedish Defense Minister Pal Jonson noted that the new aid package includes advanced air defense systems and munitions, and that the support will be long-term and aligned with Ukraine's priorities. This is already Sweden's fifth contribution to the PURL initiative, bringing the total aid amount to 552 million dollars. PURL is a U.S. and NATO program aimed at accelerating the delivery of weapons, where Ukraine compiles a list of necessary materials. The main goal of PURL is to ensure regular deliveries of weapons worth around 500 million dollars, including Patriot systems. Earlier, the countries of the Contact Group announced new aid to Ukraine amounting to 4 billion dollars, of which about 1 billion will be channeled through the PURL mechanism.
