The Share of Ukrainian Cinema in Box Office Reached 12.2% in 2026

The share of Ukrainian cinema in the box office for the first six months of 2026 was 12.2%, down from 14% in 2025, but significantly higher than 5% in 2019-2021. The median growth of the share of Ukrainian content during this period ranged from 100% to 200%. In 2026, two domestic films made it into the top ten highest-grossing releases, including the family comedy "Well, Mom," which grossed over 28.8 million UAH. The military action film "Killhouse" earned about 18 million UAH. Roman Romanchuk, the CEO of Multiplex, noted that quality content remains the main driver of attendance. Despite challenges, the chain increased sales to 2.1 billion UAH in 2025. The Ukrainian production company Film.ua Group sold several films to Netflix and other foreign companies. The Ukrainian pavilion is actively participating in the Marché du Film in Cannes, presenting new projects to international distributors. In recent years, several Ukrainian films have gained international recognition, including "20 Days in Mariupol," which became the first Ukrainian film to win an Oscar.
