U.S. Corporations Donate $646 Million for Midterm Elections
U.S. corporations have injected a record $646 million into political campaigns, which is 40% higher than the total corporate spending for the entire cycle of the 2024 presidential election. This figure is based on statistics from the past 18 months up to June of this year, and as the midterm elections on November 3 approach, the total donations may continue to rise. The statistics do not include donations from "dark money" organizations or expenditures for state and local elections, so the actual political funding may be even higher. The AI industry has become a significant source of political donations, with the super PAC "Leading the Future," associated with OpenAI, disclosing $50 million in contributions, bringing the total campaign donations reported by the AI industry to the FEC to $62 million. This PAC has currently raised $140 million in donations and commitments. Traditional industries are also actively participating, with Koch Inc., controlled by Charles Koch, donating $20 million to the "Americans for Prosperity Action" political action committee in June, and tobacco company Reynolds America contributing $5 million to Trump's super PAC MAGA Inc. through its subsidiary.
