Waller Supports Conditional Rate Hold at September FOMC
Christopher Waller, a member of the U.S. Federal Reserve, stated that he would support a conditional hold on interest rates at the September FOMC meeting. He noted that recent data shows signs of disinflation, and if the data over the next two weeks continues this trend, he would support maintaining the target range for interest rates at the current level. However, he added that if the August indicators improve, a rate hike may be appropriate. Waller's comments have prompted the market to reassess its policy path. Within the Fed, there are differing views on whether inflation is slowing and the trajectory of interest rates. In the currency market, the volatility of the yen has been highlighted, with Japanese authorities stating that the yen's volatility is within a manageable range. This suggests that any intervention by Japanese authorities in the foreign exchange market could impact global risk assets. In the South Korean cryptocurrency market, interest rates and exchange rates affect the liquidity environment for risk assets like BTC and ETH. The September FOMC is scheduled to take place on the 15th and 16th.
