Waymo Opens Dallas Robo-Taxi Service to All Users
Waymo has opened its robo-taxi service in Dallas, Texas, to all users. Now, users can call fully autonomous vehicles through the Waymo app without a waiting list. Waymo began accepting its first general passengers in Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, and Orlando on February 24, initially operating by sending out invitations sequentially. This full opening is a change in the operation of existing services rather than an expansion into new cities. The robo-taxi service allows users to summon vehicles without drivers via an app to travel to their destinations. In May, Waymo announced plans to expand its service area, including over 1,400 square miles across 11 cities. In June, it stated that by the end of March 2026, the cumulative mileage of fully autonomous driving would exceed 220 million miles. Chris Justl, CEO of the Epilepsy Foundation of Texas, stated that Waymo's autonomous vehicles would provide safe and independent transportation options for users with mobility constraints. Waymo is competing with Amazon's Zoox in the commercialization of robo-taxis and continues to conduct fully autonomous testing at Dallas Love Field Airport terminal.
