web3: Tudor Investment Increases IBIT Spot Holdings
CoinWorld reports:
Tudor Investment, founded by Paul Tudor Jones, has recently disclosed that the firm increased its direct holdings in the BlackRock spot Bitcoin ETF—IBIT—during the second quarter of this year, while significantly reducing its bullish options position by about 85%. This indicates that while its Bitcoin-related exposure remains, the method of allocation has changed significantly.
Increased Spot Holdings in Q2
The company disclosed that Tudor Investment has increased its direct holdings in IBIT. In contrast, the firm has significantly compressed its directional positions established through call options.
This adjustment suggests that the institution has not completely exited Bitcoin-related assets but is now more inclined to hold ETF shares directly, reducing the elastic exposure brought by options instruments.
Reduced Holdings During Last Year’s Uptrend
The article mentions that when Tudor Investment initially established its related positions, Bitcoin prices were rising from around $60,000 to $92,000. Subsequently, as Bitcoin continued to strengthen, the firm began to reduce its exposure during the uptrend.
In the second and third quarters of last year, Bitcoin briefly reached a historical high of $124,000. During this period of increase, Tudor continuously reduced its related holdings. By the time Bitcoin transitioned into a downturn, the number of shares held also dropped to a low point.
Changes in Exposure Structure
This second-quarter operation reflects a shift in Tudor Investment's rhythm regarding Bitcoin allocation. Unlike the previous strategy of reducing holdings during a strong market, this time the firm chose to increase its spot ETF holdings while simultaneously significantly cutting back on options positions.
From the position structure, this resembles a swap of some high-elasticity tools for more direct exposure through the spot ETF. For the market, such disclosures are typically seen as a window into observing changes in risk appetite and allocation strategies of traditional asset management institutions.
- Direct Holdings: Increased IBIT Shares in Q2
- Options Position: Reduced IBIT Call Options Holdings by about 85%
