    SoftBank Corp (TSE: 9434) is a Japanese telecom carrier — and the first thing to get right is that it is a different company from SoftBank Group (9984), the investment holding company that owns about 40% of it. The two trade separately and carry different risk profiles. SoftBank Corp's own story is mundane and bankable: in FY3/2026 operating profit topped ¥1 trillion for the first time, and a roughly 4% dividend that has never been cut since listing makes it a NISA staple. The shares trade in a rough ¥150-248 band and barely felt the AI correction (¥220.5 at the July 17 close).     SoftBank Corp's board text is not directly fetchable, so the themes below are the retail concerns as reported in the press and observed around the board as of July 2026. Discussion here is calmer and income-driven rather than meme-like.

    • A high-yield NISA staple with an unbroken dividend. The dominant theme is the roughly 4% forward yield and the fact that the payout has never been cut since the 2018 IPO. After the 10-for-1 split, one trading unit costs under ¥25,000, so it recurs on "high-yield stocks under ¥100,000" lists at brokers like SBI Securities. A new PayPay-based shareholder perk drew attention too, and the NTT (9432)-versus-SoftBank income comparison is a recurring theme.
    • The big confusion: 9434 is not 9984. Splashy AI headlines — large AI investments led by Masayoshi Son's group — belong to the holding company 9984, and should be read separately from the telecom operating company's results.

    The business and the AI/semiconductor cycle

    SoftBank Corp (9434) trades on the TSE Prime market in the information/telecom sector. It listed in December 2018 (then among Japan's largest-ever IPOs), is led by President and CEO Junichi Miyakawa, and is a consolidated subsidiary about 40.01% owned by SoftBank Group (9984). Market cap is near ¥10.6 trillion (July 17, 2026), with a forward P/E around 18.9x and a PBR of 3.57x. The business spans Japan's #3 mobile carrier (SoftBank, Y!mobile, LINEMO), enterprise IT and distribution, and media and finance via LY Corporation (LINE plus Yahoo! Japan) and PayPay — a cash-generative, defensive model that underpins its income appeal.

    Earnings are solid: FY3/2026 delivered revenue of ¥7,038.7 billion, operating profit of ¥1,042.6 billion (above ¥1 trillion for the first time), and record net income of ¥550.8 billion. Guidance for FY3/2027 (with a new mid-term plan in May 2026) is a second straight record, with net income of ¥560 billion. The dividend is guided from ¥8.6 per share in FY3/2026 to ¥8.8 in FY3/2027, a yield near 4%.

    On AI, two initiatives are genuinely SoftBank Corp's own. First, its subsidiary SB Intuitions builds the domestic Japanese large language model "Sarashina," and SoftBank sells Sarashina-based generative-AI services on its "Cloud PF Type A" (Oracle Alloy) stack (Oracle/SoftBank announcement, April 16, 2026). Second, it is converting the former Sharp Sakai LCD plant into a large-scale (about 150MW) AI data center, having announced the acquisition of roughly 60% of the site on December 20, 2024, with go-live targeted within 2026. As a defensive telecom, 9434 barely participated in the semiconductor/AI correction.

    How to read the stock

    SoftBank Corp did a 1-to-10 split in September 2024, so every price here is split-adjusted. The shares sit in a rough ¥150-248 range; they reached ¥246.8 in August 2025 and held up through the H1-2026 correction, closing at ¥220.5 on July 17. Bulls point to the never-cut ~4% dividend, still-growing record profit, PayPay/LY optionality, a modest domestic AI kicker (Sarashina plus the Sakai data center), and low-beta defensiveness. Bears note a mature telecom, AI/data-center capex pressure, price competition, and the governance discount tied to parent 9984. This page sets no price target.
