100% Electric Ferry China Zorrilla Begins Journey to South America
Buquebus announced that the ferry China Zorrilla, built at the Incat Tasmania shipyard, has started its journey to the Río de la Plata. The vessel will be transported on a specialized semi-submersible ship, with a loading operation in Hobart involving technicians and engineers from Buquebus. The trip is expected to take five weeks, after which the China Zorrilla will complete its preparations for commercial service. This ferry represents a step towards navigation with a lower environmental impact, utilizing an energy matrix based on renewable sources such as wind and solar power, thereby eliminating greenhouse gas emissions. With a length of 130 meters and a beam of 32 meters, the China Zorrilla will have the capacity for 2,100 passengers and 225 vehicles, making it the largest 100% electric aluminum vessel built to date. It will operate on the route between Puerto Madero, Buenos Aires, and Colonia del Sacramento, Uruguay. Buquebus will communicate updates on the transfer and the start date of regular services.
