Possibility of Bitcoin Rise with Japanese Capital Repatriation

If Japanese investors repatriate funds invested overseas, digital assets such as Bitcoin and Ethereum could benefit, according to forecasts. Arthur Hayes, co-founder of BitMEX, noted the potential for Japan's policy changes to trigger the unwinding of yen carry trades. Yen carry trades involve borrowing yen at low interest rates in Japan to invest in foreign assets. If the Japanese government encourages domestic investment, investors would need to liquidate foreign assets and convert dollars back to yen, which could lead to an appreciation of the yen and the unwinding of carry positions. Hayes analyzed that Japan's holdings of $1.143 trillion in U.S. Treasury bonds could impact the market. If the repatriation of Japanese capital leads to liquidity provision by the Federal Reserve, the likelihood of digital assets like Bitcoin and Ethereum benefiting increases. However, it remains uncertain whether the repatriation of Japanese capital will actually lead to liquidity provision by the Fed, as various factors could influence this outcome.
