Satoshi Mystery: Will It Lead to Participation Rewards? K1 Research Analyzes Meme Bitcoin
A new meme bitcoin (MBTC) has emerged, linking the mystery of Bitcoin (BTC) creator Satoshi Nakamoto with quantum computing security issues through a community participation model. K1 Research analyzed in a report that meme bitcoin combines the narrative surrounding Satoshi's dormant assets with gaming and social activities. The key aspect is the reinterpretation of the proof-of-work concept in Bitcoin mining as a reward system for content dissemination and participation called 'Proof-of-Viral'.
The starting point presented in the report is approximately 1,096,361 BTC, which is presumed to be held by Satoshi. Since the launch of Bitcoin in 2009, these early assets, which have not moved for a long time, have attracted market interest as much as the identity of the creator. However, the claim that the owner of these assets is Satoshi is based on assumptions, and it is difficult to accept the quantity presented in the report as confirmed personal holdings.
The reason this early asset is connected to quantum computing discussions lies in the way public keys are stored. The P2PK method used for early Bitcoin mining rewards directly exposes the public key on the blockchain. In contrast, the widely used P2PKH method allows the public key to be hidden behind a hash before the asset is utilized. The report highlights the possibility that if sufficiently powerful quantum computers emerge, the early assets with exposed public keys may face security threats first.
This does not mean that Satoshi's wallet can currently be decrypted. The report also explains that, at the current level of technology, it is virtually impossible to reverse-engineer a private key from a public key. The issue is long-term response. Even if a transition to a quantum-resistant security system occurs in the future, how to handle dormant wallets whose owners do not move their assets remains a separate challenge.
Meme bitcoin has transformed this technical question into a narrative that engages the public. It utilizes the identity of Satoshi, the whereabouts of early Bitcoin, and the potential threats of quantum computing as themes for games and missions. The connection between the early gaming industry and the name Satoshi mentioned in the report is also an element that constructs the project's narrative. However, this is not presented as evidence to prove the identity of the creator.
According to K1 Research, the participation structure of meme bitcoin is divided into game-type activities called 'Crack Missions' and social media activities known as 'Social Missions'. The project describes Crack Missions as games that test whether a generated private key matches the key of a wallet presumed to be associated with Satoshi. According to project materials, the cumulative attempts exceeded 2.4 million by the end of August 2026. However, this is a count of participation, not a figure that proves actual decryption success or technical feasibility.
Social Missions involve posting content on X (formerly Twitter) and driving conversations and user engagement. Activities such as meme creation, post dissemination, and inviting new participants are treated as contribution activities. The project refers to participants who contribute to content dissemination as 'Spreaders', likening their role in the community to that of Bitcoin miners. The idea is to link rewards to participation and influence instead of computing resources.
Proof-of-Viral aims to measure participation levels through social activities like followers and reposts. The report introduced this as a culturally reinterpreted concept of Bitcoin's proof-of-work. However, such an explanation does not validate network security or consensus functions at the level of proof-of-work. The resource that meme bitcoin primarily seeks to secure is the user's 'attention' rather than computational power.
The token distribution is also designed to be participation-centric, according to the project team. The total issuance of meme bitcoin is set at 210 billion, which is 10,000 times the maximum supply of Bitcoin at 21 million. New tokens are issued approximately every 10 minutes, and the rewards are proposed to halve every four months. The structure aims to distribute the total supply through community participation without prior allocation to the founding team.
Initial registrants are provided with emblems indicating their participation history, and points are awarded for mission completion and inviting new members. At the time of the report's writing, the specific uses and benefits of points and emblems had not been disclosed. There was also a plan introduced to link securing Bitcoin from Satoshi-era wallets to rewards for MBTC holders, but this is a conditional plan based on asset acquisition. No evidence was presented to interpret it as confirmed collateral or payable rewards.
A funding plan for business expansion was also disclosed. According to the report, the project announced a strategic investment round of $8 million supported by Gemhead Capital, Archer Capital, M2M Capital, and Meyer Venture on September 1, 2026. The project team explained that this funding would be utilized for global community campaigns, public launches, and exchange listing preparations. The investment scale and participating institutions are based on the project's announcement cited in the report.
Meme bitcoin officially activated the Proof-of-Viral campaign on September 7 and plans to expand its launch scope in September-October 2026. The possibility of entering the Robinhood ecosystem mentioned in the report is not an officially confirmed matter. Future schedules and distribution channels need to be examined to distinguish between actual announcements and implementations.
K1 Research identified the key point of interest for meme bitcoin as whether initial interest can be converted into sustained community participation. The mystery surrounding Satoshi and Bitcoin is an engaging topic, but to maintain long-term participation, the reward structure and the utility of activities must be clarified. The success of meme bitcoin, which utilizes the long-term security challenge of quantum computing as a narrative, is expected to ultimately be revealed through users' repeated participation and the execution of publicly disclosed plans.
