Ukraine to Establish SCALP Missile Production After Receiving Data from the UK
Ukraine may begin production of long-range SCALP missiles after obtaining permission from the United Kingdom to transfer classified data on British components to Kyiv. France had previously agreed to license the production of SCALP in Ukraine. Storm Shadow and SCALP-EG are the British and French versions of the same missile with a range exceeding 250 km, which can reach up to 550 km. The nearest point from the Ukrainian-Russian border to Moscow is about 450 km, theoretically allowing the missile to reach military targets in the Moscow region. However, the version with a range of 250-300 km will not be able to reach Moscow. The capabilities depend on the missile modification and configuration permitted by partners. SCALP features a penetrative warhead, BROACH, weighing 400-450 kg, designed to defeat fortified targets. Local assembly does not imply a full production cycle, and it is unclear which components Ukraine will be able to produce independently. The capacity of the production line, the volume of the first order, and the date of assembly of the first missile have also not been announced.
