U.S. Treasury Raises Borrowing Estimate for July-September to $739 Billion
The U.S. Treasury Department estimates that the net marketable debt financing held by the private sector will reach $739 billion for the July to September quarter of 2026, assuming a cash balance of $95 billion at the end of September. This estimate is $68 billion higher than the figures released in May, primarily due to anticipated reductions in net cash inflows. The Treasury also projects that it will finance $628 billion for the October to December quarter of 2026, assuming a cash balance of $85 billion at the end of December.
