Sberbank Launches Platform for Hiring Workers from India Amid 2.6 Million Labor Shortage
Sberbank, in collaboration with "Rabota.ru", has created a digital platform to automate the hiring of foreign workers in Russia against the backdrop of a labor shortage. The platform includes personnel selection, document processing, and adaptation of specialists. The first focus for hiring has been workers from India, including locksmiths and welders. There are plans to expand to other foreign markets in the future. Anatoly Popov, Deputy Chairman of Sberbank, reported that the current labor shortage in Russia stands at 2.6 million people. Long-term estimates suggest that the shortage could grow to between 2.8 and 5 million people. The most acute shortages are felt in agriculture, mining, and manufacturing industries. Russian authorities are also raising the minimum wage for foreign workers and tightening control over their incomes to reduce shadow employment, which has reached 41%. From January to May 2026, the gap between actual workers and officially registered personnel amounted to 30.5 million people.
